The Village Pond (Weed) Ilmspan
In the center of the village once stood a fire pond that played a central role in daily life and infrastructure. Situated among prominent buildings and squares, it not only shaped the village’s appearance but also served multiple essential functions. Its history reflects practical necessity, communal life, and the changes brought about by progress.

A Central Location and Versatile Use
The pond was surrounded by historical buildings: to the north stood the so-called „Wiegehäusle,“ the communal weigh house, along with a spring that fed the pond. To the south was the „Deutscher Kaiser“ inn, which was later demolished. To the east bordered the property of Josef Dürr, while to the west lay the farm complex of the Weinig-Hofert family, which also no longer exists today.
Its primary function was that of a fire pond, serving as an essential water source in the event of a fire. Additionally, it was used as a watering place for livestock—an indispensable part of village life, especially in an era when comprehensive water supply systems were not yet in place. It was not until 1963, with the installation of public water pipes, that this role was replaced by hydrants.
A Place of Community and Play
The pond, however, was much more than a functional element. For the village children, it was a place of adventure. In the summer, they would embark on small boat excursions or construct an improvised island in one of its corners. In winter, the pond transformed into an ice rink where children skated or played ice hockey. Ducks and geese also found a spot here to refresh themselves.
The imposing village linden tree, which stood to the left of the pond, provided shade and served as another symbol of village community. Although the original linden has since been replaced with a new planting, its significance remains alive in collective memory.
Change Through Progress
In 1966, the pond was eventually built over as part of a road expansion project. The modernization of the village and the changing demands on infrastructure rendered it obsolete. Yet the memory of the pond lives on, preserved through historical photographs and stories passed down within the community.
A Place of Memory
Although the pond no longer exists, its significance for the village remains present. Historical records serve as a reminder of the central role it once played. They provide a glimpse into a time when the connection between nature, community, and functionality defined village life.
The fire pond may have disappeared, but its history remains a vivid testament to the changes the village has undergone over the years.
Großflächiges Bild für das Pflegeheim „Haus am Röderstein“
Großformatig ist das Bild, das seit neuestem in einer Ecke des Flures des Pflegeheims „Haus am Röderstein“ in Großrinderfeld hängt. Und groß ist auch die Freude im Haus, dass so ein Bild als Dauerleihgabe des Heimat- und Kulturvereins nun hier hängen kann. So jedenfalls die Aussagen von Heimleiter Herrn Matthias Karcher und Pflegedienstleiterin Frau Kerstin Just. Als wäre die Ecke dafür extra beim Bau berücksichtigt worden, hängt das Bild da, als hätte es seinen Platz schon vorher beansprucht. Doch die Leihgabe ist ganz neu im Haus. Der Ehrenvorsitzende und Motor des Heimat- und Kulturvereins, Rudi Geiger, hat die Initiative ergriffen und das Werk aus dem Fundus des Heimat- und Kulturvereins dem Pflegeheim zur Verfügung gestellt.
Konzert in Schönfeld am 7. Mai
Der Heimat- und Kulturverein wird dieses Jahr 20 Jahre alt.
Aus diesem Grund findet im Dorfgemeinschaftshaus Schönfeld ein Konzertnachmittag mit allen drei Musikkapellen unserer Heimatgemeinde statt.
Mit einer Bild-Präsentation wollen wir auf unsere vielfältige Vereinsarbeit in den zurückliegenden zwei Jahrzehnten blicken.
Für das leibliche Wohl sorgen Schönfelder Vereine.
Zu dieser Veranstaltung laden wir die gesamte Bevölkerung herzlich ein.

Das Konzert in Schönfeld ist die zweite Veranstaltung unseres Vereins im Jubiläumsjahr. Das Feierlichkeiten wurden eingeleitet mit dem Festkommers im März.
Der HKV feierte seinen 20. Geburtstag
Vier Ortsteile haben sich vor zwei Dekaden zu einer Gemeinschaft zusammengeschlossen. Seinen runden Geburtstag beging der Heimat- und Kulturverein (HKV) für die Gesamtgemeinde Großrinderfeld nun mit einem Festkommers und zahlreichen geladenen Gästen in der Turnhalle.
